This Creekside Cabin Rental Near Wind Cave National Park Is a Perfect Base Camp

This rental cabin in South Dakota is the perfect base camp for visiting underrated Wind Cave National Park and the rest of the Black Hills and Badlands.

Wind Cave National Park is an incredible place in western South Dakota that visitors often overlook in favor of its more famous neighbors, Badlands National Park and Mt. Rushmore National Memorial. Even Custer State Park, which is directly adjacent, receives almost five times as many annual visitors as Wind Cave National Park. This seems almost absurd to me, as Wind Cave is not only worth visiting in its own right, but it's centrally located to many other parks and attractions in the Black Hills. That's why I think this cabin near Wind Cave National Park, South Dakota, is the perfect place to set up a base camp for your Black Hills adventures.

Wind Cave National Park is home to the third-longest cave system in the United States and the sixth-longest in the world. I love all the wildlife in the park, myself. On the surface, you'll find free-roaming bison, prairie dog towns, pronghorn, and other animals, as well as more than 33,000 acres of rolling prairie, forest, and canyons laced with hiking trails. Wind Cave is only half an hour southeast of Jewel Cave National Monument, where you'll find the country's second-longest cave (fifth-longest on the planet), 45 minutes south of Mt. Rushmore, and 75 minutes west of Badlands National Park. Custer State Park and Black Hills National Forest are right next door, and the charming town of Custer, South Dakota, is just minutes away.

This roomy creekside cabin, only 4 miles from Wind Cave, is the place to set up shop when you visit.

This four-bedroom, two-bath cabin has a charming and rustic exterior but offers all the modern amenities you—and up to nine of your friends—will need during your stay. Heat, air conditioning, and Wi-Fi are all available to ensure a pleasant stay no matter what time of year you visit.

When you're not out exploring Wind Cave or the Black Hills, you can roam the property, splash around in Beaver Creek, or watch the stars do their slow-motion dance across the dark night sky. The cabin's interior is beautifully appointed and lined with natural wood and stone. Comfortable leather furniture, a fireplace, and an HDTV will keep you occupied in the evenings or when the weather turns on you.

A generously equipped full kitchen and an outdoor gas grill offer plenty of options for prepping and enjoying meals at the cabin. If there are times you don't want to cook, nearby Custer has plenty of surprising and delicious eateries from which to choose.

So next time you visit the Black Hills in South Dakota, be sure to include Wind Cave National Park on your agenda—it's worth it, even if you don't venture into the eponymous cave—and consider a stay at the creekside cabin at Seven Bulls Ranch. Visit the cabin's Airbnb listing to make your reservations and see additional photos of the property.
