Located just 15 minutes from Boston is the DCR Blue Hills Reservation with 7,000 acres filled with hiking and mountain biking trails, ponds, and campsites. Spanning an area between Dedham, Randolph, Quincy, and Milton, this preserve seems worlds away from city life. If you wish to spend more than a day here at Blue Hills, you can rent a cozy cabin with lovely water views from AMC Ponkapaug Family Camp.
Located within Blue Hills Reservation is the 230-acre Ponkapaug Pond. Along the eastern shoreline of this picturesque pond is a campground that is certainly a unique place to stay in Massachusetts.
The AMC Ponkapaug Family Camp offers 20 primitive cabins and two campsites. It is run by the Appalachian Mountain Club.
These cabins in Massachusetts sleep between two and seven people. Inside there are bunks with mattresses, but you will have to bring your own linens. Each cabin also has a table with chairs and a dresser but no electricity or running water.
However, there are outhouses available at the campground and you can bring your own lanterns, water, and camping stove.
Cabins with woodstoves can be rented year-round. You may purchase firewood onsite or gather your own in the surrounding woods, which would be a wonderful way to get out and connect with nature on your getaway in Massachusetts.
From the Blue Hills cabins, you will be treated to a front-row view of the lovely Ponkapaug Pond. There's simply nothing better than accommodations with a water view.
At and around the pond, visitors can enjoy a variety of activities like boating, swimming, cross-country skiing, snow-shoeing, and hiking.
