Here in Maine, history can be found all around us. From signs of early inhabitants to geological wonders that remind us that mother nature has been adding to this state forever. While we appreciate any history that teaches us about what was here before us, we especially love the glimpses into the state as it was becoming a more popular destination. Welcome to the historic Colony Hotel in Kennebunkport!

The site of the current hotel was originally home to the Ocean Bluff Hotel in 1872. It was eventually redone to become the Breakwater Court in 1914.

In 1935 the Boughton family purchased The Colony Hotel in Delray Beach, Florida followed by the purchase of the Breakwater Court in 1947. It opened as The Colony Hotel in Maine in 1948. Together, these hotels became seasonal sisters, the Maine hotel open in the summer and the Florida hotel open in the winter.

Eventually, The Colony Hotel in Maine expanded and today there are 125-rooms in 5 different buildings.

The location on Maine's rocky coast could not be more idyllic.

Each off-season the entire hotel is revamped. And it shows when they open. Rooms are airy, bright and beautifully decorated.

And outside, things feel contemporary and summery. Spend your nights cozily tucked away in a beautiful room and your days enjoying the sunshine of a Maine summer.

There are a lot of ways to enjoy meals here, but we especially love the Friday Night Mariners Buffet and the breakfast buffet each morning.

The hotel is also Maine's first green hotel, meaning they're dedicated to solid waste reduction, material reuse, recycling, energy and water conservation.
