There are so many different places to camp in Georgia, it can be overwhelming to find the perfect place. Heck, Georgia State Parks offers over 2,400 campsites alone! But if you really want to have an all-encompassing adventure, one that will have you sleeping under towering trees in nature near the beach and plenty of fun things to do, then check out Jekyll Island Campground in Georgia. It's not every day that you can camp on an island, right?
Jekyll Island Campground in Georgia offers 179 campsites in a wonderfully secluded and wooded setting near the beach.
With both primitive tent sites and full-service RV sites, you can have your pick of how you’d like to set up shop in this tucked-away campground.
That is, if you reserve your site well enough in advance, because this campground can fill up pretty quickly. My family visited for a summer trip in 2023, and we made our reservation about one month in advance. There were a limited number of sites to choose from.
Sleep underneath a canopy of oak trees, draped with Spanish moss, smack dab in the middle of nature.
We absolutely loved the picture-perfect setting of this campground. Oaks dripping with Spanish moss are some of my most favorite trees, and this scene with the sun shining through them captures their magnificent presence and beauty.
The campground offers everything you would need for a weekend away, including two bathhouses, free WiFi, on-site laundry, and even a general store filled with supplies like firewood, ice, and snacks.
One of the highlights of this campground is the location - you’ll be within walking distance to the ocean, as well as other popular sites throughout Jekyll Island.
Make sure to bring your bikes when you camp, or rent some from the campground, because it’ll be easy to hop on the nearby bike trail and travel to certain hotspots throughout the island, like Driftwood Beach!
On the morning we left to head back home from our trip, we decided to get up early to catch the sunrise on Driftwood Beach. And let me just put it this way, it's magical. Words cannot do justice in describing the experience, and as gorgeous as photos are, there's no comparison to being there in person to feeling the breeze and hear the sounds of the ocean as the sun peeks above and moves up over the horizon.
Come enjoy a weekend of adventure on the Georgia coast when you rent a campsite at Jekyll Island Campground.
