3 Airbnbs Near Arizona’s Most Epic Waterfalls

If scenic hikes and rushing cascades are calling your name, embark on a waterfall hike and make your home base at one of three outstanding Arizona Airbnbs.

Are you waterfall chasers out there ready for a getaway that centers around one of the state's most stunning cascades? We are fortunate to have numerous falls, many of which are reachable via an adventurous hike in some of the more remote parts of the state, and they are always worth the effort to find. Best of all, there are many Airbnbs near waterfall trails in Arizona, so you can create a relaxing getaway after spending an afternoon discovering the cascades.

Epic Waterfall Trails in Arizona

A select number of waterfall hikes in Arizona lead to cascades that are jaw-dropping and awe-inspiring. Here are a few to consider the next time you desire to chase waterfalls:

1. Fossil Creek Falls - Camp Verde, AZ

alt

One of the most enchanting hikes you can take in the Grand Canyon State is the one that leads to Fossil Creek Falls. Located in Camp Verde near Strawberry, a moderate 2.2-mile, out-and-back trek through the Tonto National Forest leads intrepid hikers to a stunning waterfall cascading over travertine into a turquoise blue pool of water — and, yes, you can swim here!

To get to the trailhead, it's helpful, although not necessary, to have a 4WD vehicle as the road isn't paved. Make sure to bring sun protection and plenty of water, even on cooler days. During the summer months, get an early start and plan to leave before it gets too hot. To hike this trail between April 1 and October 1, a permit is required; instructions are available on Recreation.gov.

2. Water Wheel Falls - Payson, AZ

alt

Among my favorite waterfalls in Arizona, Waterwheel Falls involves a fun, yet somewhat tricky trail that involves a bit of rock scrambling. The 1.6-mile, out-and-back trail is considered moderate and parallels the East Verde River, a popular spot among locals for swimming, hiking, and fishing. Along the way, keep your eyes peeled for the old water wheel that the trail is named after, and take a dip at any of the swimming holes by the cascades along the river. This is one of the most refreshing natural spots to cool off in Arizona during the late spring through early fall when temperatures are at their highest.

A Tonto Discovery Pass must be purchased in order to park at one of the lots near the trailhead for Water Wheel Falls. Keep in mind, too, that this is a flash flood area, so be aware of the weather and any alerts before you go. Flash floods can strike at any time and without warning.

3. Seven Falls - Tucson, AZ

Located within the incredibly scenic Sabino Canyon Recreation Area at the base of the Santa Catalina Mountains, the Bear Canyon to Seven Falls Trail traverses for 8.4 miles through a striking landscape dotted with Saguaro cacti. The elevation gain is just over 1,000 feet, with some steep sections along the trail. But your efforts will be worth it because at the end of the trail is the pièce de résistance — Seven Falls, a series of small waterfalls cascading into a pristine pool below.

Please note that there is a fee to access Sabino Canyon Recreation Area. It is also recommended to start your hike to Seven Falls as early in the day as possible, since temperatures reach their highs by mid-afternoon. Make sure to bring plenty of water and other hiking essentials for this moderately challenging hike.
