This Airbnb in Arizona Feels Like a Scandinavian Escape

This Arizona Airbnb blends minimalist Scandinavian design among the forest scenery, creating a stay that feels worlds away from the Southwest.

How would you like to feel as though you're visiting a Scandinavian country without leaving Arizona? Well, I have some good news for you: there's a stunning Airbnb with an intriguing design, complete amenities so luxurious and cozy you may never want to leave. Set in the forest, it's a getaway destination where relaxation is paramount. This Airbnb that looks like Scandinavia is in the small mountain town of Payson, Arizona, and may be one of the most unique vacation rentals in the state.

Airbnb That Looks Like a Scandinavian Escape

While I have yet to visit Norway, I have been to two other Scandinavian countries, Denmark and Sweden, and absolutely fell in love with the architecture. With clean lines and sustainable design, the architecture appeals to the minimalist in me. While many of us don't have the option to hop on a plane, cross the Atlantic, and spend time exploring a Scandinavian country like Norway, Sweden, or Denmark, you may feel as though you're in that part of the world when booking a stay at the Norsk Escape. Dubbed a "Secluded Forest Mountain Getaway," this minimalist, design-forward home is set among the lush forest in Payson. The setting is private, and you're unlikely to hear anything but the sounds of nature when you venture outside.

This modern Scandinavian-designed home, which can accommodate up to 11 guests, features two baths and three bedrooms—one with a king-sized bed, another with a queen bunk, and then there's a loft with a king-sized bed. Additional sleeping arrangements can be made in the home's smaller living room, where you'll find two bean bag chairs that convert into a queen bed.

Of course, a home like this offers a slew of comfortable amenities that make this getaway feel like a temporary home. While small, the European-style kitchenette has the tools you need to cook and serve a meal, and the main living room area provides a sense of coziness and comfort, while allowing guests to gaze out at the trees through the wall of sliding glass.

The Best Features of This Arizona Airbnb

Inside the Norsk Haus are pellet fireplaces you can fire up to create a warm, cozy vibe on those cold mountain nights. Bringing natural light and a sense of nature into the home, you'll likely spend a lot of time looking out at the trees through the floor-to-ceiling windows.

Head outdoors to sit or dine at one of the modern picnic tables overlooking the trees, cook on the Traeger grill, and sit under the warmth of a heat lamp. It's times like these when you can truly relax among nature, breathing in mountain air. But, perhaps, the most exciting amenity at the Norsk Haus is the barrel sauna for a true hygge experience. The sauna is electric and can fit up to eight people, but if you're like me, you'll want it all to yourself.

Nearby Attractions to Explore While Staying Here

If you feel like adventuring around the town of Payson, plus the nearby towns of Pine and Strawberry, it's honestly a nature lover's dream come true. As one of my favorite parts of Arizona, these towns offer recreation, including swimming and hiking, as well as shopping and dining options. Tonto Natural Bridge State Park is a small state park featuring a magnificent natural wonder—a massive natural travertine bridge said to be the largest in the world. Another spectacular nature spot that's especially fun to visit in the summer is Water Wheel Falls, which requires some hiking and rock scrambling to reach the best swimming holes along the trail.

A visit to the Pine Creek Lavender Farm Store in Pine is always a joyful little spot to peruse a variety of goods made from lavender grown on the farm property. For dining options, the most popular spots are the Beeline Cafe in Payson (cash only), PIEbar in Strawberry, THAT Brewery and Pub in Pine, and Old County Inn, also in Pine. You can't go wrong with any of these restaurant options!
