Relive Vermont History At President Chester A. Arthur State Historic Site In Vermont

For being a small state, Vermont has quite the historical record. Home to two U.S. Presidents, Calvin Coolidge and Chester A. Arthur, and having declared itself a republic in 1777, Vermont has no shortage of interesting historic twists and turns, and luckily, some of these important landmarks and buildings have been preserved in our small and green state. The childhood home of the 21st President of the United States, Chester A. Arthur, in Fairfield is now a Historic Site in Vermont that provides visitors a window into the past to relive Vermont history.

This small townhome in Fairfield was believed for a time to be the birthplace of President Arthur. However, more recent studies have indicated that this home was instead the second childhood home of Chester Arthur.

Born in 1829, Chester Arthur grew up for the first three years of his life in Fairfield, although the exact place of his birth is still debated.

Today, this historic site shows the 19th century style of the home as it might have looked when young Chester lived there.

Fairfield, east of St. Albans, is a small and rural town in northern Vermont with lovely surrounding scenery and farmland.
