If you are looking for a fun and interesting day drip in Vermont, consider visiting the Justin Morrill Homestead. Walk through the grounds while learning and exploring over 160 years of Vermont life at this gorgeous and well-kept homestead in Vermont. Here's what you can expect from a visit:
Having grown up in Strafford, Vermont, Justin Morrill served on both the United States House of Representatives and Senate for almost 44 years, leaving an impacting legacy and history in American politics.
In 1862, Morrill proposed the Land-Grant Act, which sought to make funds available from Federal land sales for colleges teaching agriculture, business, engineering, mechanics and home economics.
From 1848 to 1851, he constructed this house in Strafford, Vermont, and resided in this homestead for the rest of his long and prosperous life.
Today, the homestead is a National Historic Landmark and serves the public as a museum and public grounds from March to mid-October.
The house is a fine example of Gothic Revival architecture and serves as a superb place in Vermont to learn about our history and former way of life and architecture.
There are also self-guided Garden Tours in the summertime, as well as the ornamental Victorian gardens and Morrill’s historic orchard.
