10. Barrington

Barrington is a medium-sized coastal town with a low annual violent crime rate of around .25 for every 1,000 residents.

9. Hopkinton

Hopkinton is a small town, with under 8,000 people. The crime rate overall is 80% below that of the national average!

8. Richmond

This Washington County town offers many peaceful country roads perfect for long drives. It is the 33rd largest community in the state and has a population of under 8,000.

7. Bristol

The charming deepwater seaport town of Bristol has beautiful safe parks and many historic attractions. It also ranks over 90% below the national average crime rate.

6. Burrillville

This town is located on the northern tip of the state bordering Massachusetts. With a crime rate of 9 per 1,000 residents, Burrillville is a quaint and safe place, definitely one of the best quiet towns in Rhode Island!

5. Exeter

Bordering Connecticut is the charming town of Exeter. This small town has a population of under 7,000 people and ranks remarkably low in its annual crime rate.

4. Portsmouth

With a population of over 17,000, Portsmouth is one of the larger cities on this list. The town has a ton of history and very little crime, ranking safer than 84% of U.S. cities.

3. Jamestown

Situated on Conanicut Island, the town of Jamestown boasts beautiful state parks, a stunning harbor and a fun downtown area. The violent crime rate fell far under that national average, ranking under 1 per 1,000 residents.

Scituate has a crime rate of 5 per 1000 residents. This combined with its stunning reservoir and small town charm make it a great place to live.
