Ohio is home to some of the most surprising and most interesting hidden gems—you just have to know where to look.

Few people know that Campbell Hill in Bellefontaine is home to the highest point in Ohio and the site of a Cold War early warning radar. It’s a quiet roadside attraction that doesn’t get a lot of attention but it’s neat to cross off your Ohio bucket list.

Welcome to Campbell Hill, the highest place you can possibly stand in the state of Ohio.

You'll find it on the grounds of a vocational-technical school, the Hi-Point Career Center.

Campbell Hill stands at 1,549 feet above sea level, making it the highest point in the Buckeye State.

What was once home to the Bellefontaine Air Force Station and the 664th Aircraft Control and Warning Squadron is now both a school and a historic spot.

During your visit, you'll want to check out the free museum in the Welcome Center, which features memorabilia of the station's crew and staff.

Note: The gates of the Ohio Hi - Point Career Center are open daily until dusk.

The 664th Aircraft Control and Warning Squadron ran an early-warning radar installation during the Cold War before the base closed in 1969.

The Ohio Hi - Point Career Center was founded on the site in 1974.

Although it's relatively flat and you don't have to hike an inspiring summit to get there, Campbell Hill is a peaceful and reflective spot.

Sit on the bench in the small garden for awhile and take in the view.

The highest point is clearly marked on the ground, making it the perfect place to stop and take a photo.

There's even a guest book you can sign and a certificate you can take home as a memento.
