Rare Vintage Footage From The 1940s Shows You Every Part Of New Mexico

New Mexico's landscapes and cultural heritage are showcased in a 1947 educational film available at The Travel Film Archive.

New Mexico has increasingly become a popular location for filming. We've been seeing the state's landscape featured in various films and TV shows recently, such as "Hostiles" and "Better Call Saul."

Today, we're going to pay tribute to that film history with a look at an early educational film showing just how enchanting New Mexico can be, from its striking landscapes to its growing cities and towns.

Not many details exist about the film series, which documented life in various states and countries around the world.

This particular film was shot and produced in 1947 and was even available in color. You can find and download a copy of the film at The Travel Film Archive.

The website notes the filmmaker, Carl Dudley, produced hundreds of "travel adventures."

Among these was this film series, created as educational films. These documented incredible places that most Americans at the time could only dream to see.

For example, you'll get to see the bustling life happening in downtown Albuquerque...

...or experience the timeless beauty of White Sands National Monument through a tourist walk near Alamogordo.

You'll also get to take a peek at common industries during the time, such as mining, ranching, and farming.

...and get a brief taste of the various cultures found around the state.

For example, they mention the Inter-Tribal Ceremonial in Gallup as an attraction to see, as well as highlighting New Mexico's history with a look at pueblos and its Hispanic heritage.
