5 Moments Everyone Born In Nashville Will Always Remember

If you were born in Nashville, Tennessee, then you most likely have experienced a radical change in the heart - and infrastructure! - of the city in recent years. It's still full of southern hospitality and local charm, but there has been an influx of transplants and tourists that don't quite understand the contemporary history found within city lines. What would the city be like, if everyone remembered...

1. The Tornado of 1998

From April 15th to the 16th in 1998, Nashville experienced a two-day tornado outbreak which resulted in the touchdown of two in Nashville proper. Both downtown and East Nashville experienced devastating damage, making the city one of the first in 20 years to experience a direct tornado hit in the heart of the city.

2. The inception of the Tennessee Oilers.

1997 was a big year, when Houston lost a football team and the Tennessee Oilers made their big debut. They came in at 8 wins and 8 losses, and sadly didn't head to the playoffs their inaugural year.

3. The Polar Vortex of 2015.

The winter of 2014 to 2015 was filled with wild, teeth-cracking cold. Although it affected a large part of the nation, it still shut down Nashville schools and businesses for days. There were multiple casualties over the course of the freeze, rocking the city with the dangerous aftermath.

4. The Nashville Flood of 2010.

Who can forget the thousand year flood? The 2010 downpour resulted in the loss of twenty-six lives and cost the city $2 billion dollars in property damage. Both the heart of downtown and Opry Mills were almost fully engulfed by the Cumberland River.

5. The beginning of, "Nashville" in 2012.

ABC really did a number on Music City when they blasted ratings through the roof with the 2012 hit, "Nashville." Although the show has since made its way to CMT, we're still fans of our dramatic Tennessee family.
