11 Totally True Stereotypes Kansans Should Just Accept As Fact

Sometimes stereotypes turn out to be more true than not.

In Kansas, we're known for fields of wheat, flat prairie, and really boring highway drives. We have some beef with a neighboring state or two, but only because of sporting rivalries. We're half farmers, half city folk, and all hospitality. We're just us! Let's see how many true stereotypes you match up with. Do you know of any others?

1. We have a lot of farmland.

It's not all farmland, but it's... a majority of Kansas. If we're being honest.

2. For the most part, we're a pretty flat state.

Not as flat as Florida, though. So that's something, right?

3. We've got a lot of bad drivers when it's raining hard or snowing.

We like to criticize other states, but we're not the best drivers either.

4. Many of us actually have a slightly southern accent.

Some of us sound like Okies, some sound like Northerners, you get the point.

5. We've got a lot of beef with our neighboring states, depending on which sport you follow.

It seems like everyone needs someone to compete with, no matter what.

6. Many of us do actually live near a field of wheat or corn.

Unless you're in the middle of Wichita or Lawrence, you're probably not far from a field.

7. Eastern and Western Kansans are two different types of people.

The divide isn't down the center, either. It's more of a slanted line West of Wichita.

8. We're kind of drama queens when it comes to our winters.

It really doesn't even snow that often, we're just worried about ice storms.

9. Or weather in general, honestly.

Tornadoes are hard to catch, even if we do have them pretty often. Plus, it's never as crazy as we make it sound.

10. We really don't know when or if we will finish roadwork.

This one's completely true. Deadlines always seem to move farther away, no matter how quick it was supposed to be.

11. Long distance driving on our major highways does suck.

It's flat, boring, with almost no features. If there's no clouds, you better like the color blue! You won't be seeing much else for miles.
