11 Things Arizonans Do That Seem Insane To Everyone Else
Life in Arizona is unique with its extreme weather and distinctive local habits.
Life in Arizona is both amazing and unique. This state has some of the hottest summers in the country and still manages to get ample snowfall in the winter months. Our spring season starts a couple months sooner than other areas of the country, we get wild storms in the summer, and the yellowing leaves of fall look absolutely incredible against red rock buttes. With all of that comes unique—and possibly weird—things Arizonans do that can seem a bit weird to others. Here’s 11 such examples.
1. We think the desert is gorgeous!
You wouldn’t understand until you’ve seen just how teeming with life the desert can be.
2. We also relish all those disappearing spots where you can’t get a cell signal.
Enjoy it while it lasts!
3. This isn’t exactly abnormal.
4. And neither is this for a state best known for its deserts.
5. The heat is generally no big deal.
But ask us again when those temperatures soar above 116F.
6. But we completely avoid touching anything metal in summer: door handles, seat belt buckles, and other items should be handled with care.
I wore a large pair of metal earrings one summer afternoon and learned my lesson after its searing edge touched my face.
7. Our Christmas decorations look a little different around here.
We make do with what we have.
8. We take pride in being home to the world’s largest antique, the London Bridge.
9. We avoid driving in areas that otherwise look like a puddle.
It would be a mistake not to heed those flash flood warnings!
10. Knowing that cold water from the tap doesn’t always come out cold.
Raise your hand if you’ve ever been burned by "cold" water in summer.
11. These scary and potentially deadly creatures are usually more of a nuisance than a threat.
