One thing I love about Los Angeles is the incredible array of cuisines. The diversity of the city’s population and cultures is reflected in the food scene and you can enjoy nearly any kind of food you are craving. One of the slightly less common ethnic foods to be found is Spanish, which is just one reason that this new tapas bar in Santa Monica, CA, is already very popular with residents on LA’s Westside.
XUNTOS, pronounced “chun-tos” and meaning “together” in the Galician language, was designed by the chef and owner to be a fun, warm, inviting place for people to enjoy food and friends.
Located in a historic 1926 building in downtown Santa Monica, the restaurant is lovely without taking itself too seriously.
The space, actually two combined storefronts, has two kitchens, a bar room, a dining, room, and two mezzanine areas for guests to enjoy.
The dishes at XUNTOS are served as they would be enjoyed in Spain, unrefined and prepared to enjoy the freshness and flavor of local ingredients.
Small plates feature bites created from a nearby farmers market while the kitchen also serves up traditional dishes from regions in Spain such as Galicia, Catalonia, and the Basque region.
Diners love classics like Patatas Bravas and Croquetas de Jamon as well as more uncommon bites like the little grilled cheese sandwiches known as Bikinis, sliced tuna empanada pies, and fried anchovies.
The wine and beverage program is as interesting and appealing as the food menu, with natural Spanish wines, sherries, vermouths, Spanish beer on tap, and hand-crafted traditional drinks such as Calimocho - made with red wine and cola.
The “come as you are” ambiance at XUNTOS is comfortable and draws a mix of guests enjoying a casual meal, a romantic date night, or part of a glam night out.
If you are looking for something a little different, the flood of locals is a good indication that XUNTOS is worth a visit. Have you tried this new tapas bar in Santa Monica?
