Is it just me or does anyone else wish they could take in the beauty of South Dakota all at once?! Think about it: We have the prairie, beautiful cities, the Badlands... why can't we enjoy it all at the same time? While this may seem impossible, we can get a decent look at all of the above, thanks to these breathtaking South Dakota overlooks that lets you see for miles and miles:
Quite possibly one of the most magnificent of South Dakota spots is that of Badlands National Park!
Spanning a whopping 242,756 acres, the Badlands are comprised of colorful buttes and pinnacles, making for one of the most unique parks in America.
In addition to the dramatic peaks and spires, the Badlands also boast FIFTEEN must-see overlooks, which give an entirely new perspective to both the park and state.
From the quiet and serene Prairie Wind Overlook...
Featuring a planked boardwalk, Prairie Wind is a short and sweet overlook with lovely views of the untouched plains.
...to the Yellow Mounds Overlook...
Quite possibly the most vibrant of overlooks is Yellow Mounds, which has close-up views of the surrounding yellow, red, and orange dunes.
...all the way to the jaw-dropping Big Badlands Overlook, there is no shortage of landscapes to see and enjoy.
If you only have time to do one overlook, we wholeheartedly recommend Big Badlands!
Badlands National Park is located at 25216 Ben Reifel Road in Interior and is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
