What are your plans this weekend? The weather's frigid, but you should bundle up and head to Sioux Falls for one of the season's best winter festivals.
Are you ready for some frosty fun? Join in at the Frosty Frolics Festival in Sioux Falls on January 5th, 6th and 7th. There are tons of family-appropriate, snowy activities for everyone.
Enjoy tubing at Great Bear Recreation Park on Friday, January 5th from 3 PM to 10 PM for just $5 per person. On Saturday from 9:30 PM to 11:30 PM, the park offers Laser Tubing for $15.
Great Bear Recreation Park is located at 5901 East Rice Street.
How about some ice skating? All six Sioux Falls parks and ice rinks will offer free skate rental on each day of the festival.
On Friday the 5th, enjoy free rentals from 4 PM to 9 PM. On Saturday the 6th, free skate rentals are available from 1 PM to 9 PM. On Sunday the 7th, free skate rentals run 1 PM to 8 PM.
Saturday's events kick off with the Frosty Frolics Fun Run/Walk Fun run 5K and 10K walk/run. It starts at 9 AM.
Register the morning of the event for free.
If ice fishing is your favorite winter activity, visit Family Park on Saturday from 10 AM to Noon for the Ice Fishing Frenzy Event.
Fishing poles are available for loan on a first-come, first-served basis. You'll find Family Park a half mile north of 12th Street on Tea/Ellis Road.
Snuggle in for storytime, hot cocoa and craft activities at the Prairie West Library on Saturday from 10 AM to Noon.
The event is designed for kids ages 3 - 12. You'll find the library at 7630 West 26th Street.
The Mary Jo Wegner Arboretum hosts a guided snowshoe tour on Saturday from 1 PM to 3 PM. Snowshoes are available to borrow.
The Mary Jo Wegner Arboretum is located at 1900 South Perry Place.
Bring your fat tire bike to Tomar Park Saturday at 1 PM. Falls Area Singletrack (FAST) hosts this event with a bike ride from Tomar Park to Falls Park, and a tasty, frosty treat at the end of the ride.
Tomar Park is located at 100 West Twin Oaks Road.
The Scheels Ice Plex hosts Teen Cosmic Skate for teens ages 14 - 17 Saturday night from 7:30 PM to 10 PM.
Admission/skate rental is just $5. Scheels IcePlex is at 4300 North Bobhalla Drive.
On Sunday, January 7th, head back to Great Bear Recreation Park for the Showplace Kitchens All-Age Ski and Snowboard Races from 1 PM to 3 PM.
If you want to compete, register at the admissions counter between 9 AM and Noon.
Enjoy free sleigh rides at Memorial Ice Rink Sunday, January 7th from 1 PM to 3 PM. The rides are provided free of charge by the McCrossan Boys Ranch.
Memorial Ice Rink is located at West 26th Street and South Sertoma Avenue.
Ready for some indoor fun? Head to the Midco Aquatic Center to enjoy a Flick and Float Event on Sunday, January 7th. Watch the movie "Frozen" while floating in the indoor pool.
Admission is $5 for children and seniors; $6 for adults ages 18 and older. The Midco Aquatic Center is located at 1601 South Western Avenue.
