For many zoo visitors, the giraffes are the animals that catch their attention. If you love giraffes, you're going to want to plan a visit to Great Plains Zoo this summer.
The zoo is home to several reticulated giraffes. You can visit them in the African Savannah exhibit in the northernmost part of the zoo.
These friendly, intelligent creatures are waiting to say hello to you.
During summer months, the zoo offers visitors the opportunity to hand-feed the giraffes.
Reticulated giraffes can grow to 19 feet tall, so they're able to dine on the leaves of tall trees, but they're also happy to be hand-fed some greens by curious zoo patrons.
The giraffes at Great Plains Zoo have even been fed by Governor Daugaard.
Giraffe feedings will soon be offered for the summer. The feedings are typically available several times per day on weekends, for a small fee.
