Planning a beach day soon and in search of a spot that won’t be overrun with tourists (or locals)? Then you’ve come to the right place! South Carolina’s 187-mile coastline has some hidden beaches even the locals don’t frequent. Get ready for a low-key day in the sand and the surf at the following less populated beaches in South Carolina!

This cozy little beach park on Hilton Head is a far cry from the crowded beaches found in other parts of the state. Visitors here enjoy the quiet solitude of a little known beach combined with convenient rest rooms and outdoor showers. Bring all your own gear, there are no chair rentals and no drink concessions, either. There's a trade-off for being remote.

The quaint beach found at Mitchelville Freedom Park actually dovetails into the beach of Fish Haul Beach Park, as the two are side by side in location. You'll pass through a maritime forest on the trail to the beach at Mitchelville, though.

Located between 14th Avenue South and 21st Avenue South in North Myrtle Beach, Crescent Beach is a neighborhood with a laid-back beach perfect for a fun, family day of fun and sun in the refreshing waters of the Atlantic. As a bonus, all parking in North Myrtle Beach is free before 9 a.m. and after 5 p.m.

If you want to avoid the masses, just head to any of the beaches found within South Carolina State Parks. Perhaps it's the admission fee that keeps many people away, but it also makes for very uncrowded beaches. Edisto is no different. Plus, Edisto Island is just so positively shabby, it makes any visit a chic experience.

The beach beside and in front of Fort Moultrie on Sullivans Island is rarely populated with many locals or visitors. There are some warning signs up here about swimming in the strong currents created by the shipping lanes that pass nearby, but wading is ok for the most part. Enjoy views of the Charleston Harbor, Fort Sumter, and downtown Charleston from here!

Most people don't realize there's a public park on Kiawah Island that anyone can go to, even without an owner pass onto the island. Perks here include beach chair and umbrella rentals in season, as well as lifeguards for part of the year.
