Are you craving a thick, juicy, mouthwatering steak? Going to just any ol' restaurant won't do. Luckily, South Carolina is home to many excellent steakhouses like Mill Pond Steakhouse in Rembert, Hall's Chophouse in Charleston, and Shug's Steakhouse in Hartsville. But if you haven't yet been for a steak at The Open Hearth in Taylors, you'll have to make plans to go. Since 1959 the Melehes family has owned this old-school steakhouse in the Greenville area, and it's become a favorite local spot over the decades.
For over 60 years, The Open Hearth has been a family-owned and operated favorite in Taylors. On the extensive menu, you'll find a variety of steaks, chops, chicken, and seafood.
Food aside, the restaurant itself has a warm, cozy, elegant, and inviting atmosphere. The booths are dark red leather, not unlike other old-school steakhouses, and linens adorn the tables. It's a wonderful ambiance for a decadent meal.
The Open Hearth serves top choice and high-grade aged beef. Whether it's bone-in ribeye, t-bone, N.Y. strip, top sirloin, or filet mignon, any cut you order will be cooked to perfection and served with a variety of sides.
All entrees come with a garden salad, onion rings, and a choice of baked potato, fries, rice pilaf, sweet potato, or vegetables.
The Open Hearth also has a variety of signature entrees on the menu. The filet and crab cake (pictured here) is topped with Béarnaise sauce and asparagus for a unique take on surf 'n' turf.
If you don't feel like steak, pork chops, or chicken, seafood dishes are an excellent choice here as well.
With a full bar, you can indulge in a glass of wine or a cocktail to accompany your meal. And don't forget to save room for one of the decadent desserts.
