You’ll Love Visiting Revival, A South Carolina Restaurant Loaded With Local History
As the oldest city in South Carolina, Charleston is rich with history. There’s no shortage of restaurants in the Holy City honoring the unique flavors and heritage of South Carolina, but within the Vendue, you’ll find something a little different. Revival, an elegant modern eatery, brings celebrating local South Carolina history to a new level.
Located on the first floor of the Vendue hotel in the historic French Quarter, Revival opened in June 2018. However, the property of the Vendue itself dates back much further - all the way to 1780, when it was a string of five warehouses operating as part of the seaport trade.
In keeping with the Vendue’s reputation as “Charleston’s art hotel,” on Revival’s walls, you’ll find artwork by local artists. The hotel displays over 300 pieces of original artwork, in fact.
But the real works of art at Revival are the dishes, which are prepared with local heirloom ingredients. It’s where the restaurant gets its name – a “revival” of recipes and ingredients from South Carolina’s past. Revival has even worked with local farmers to bring back previously extinct ingredients, like Nostrale rice and the Bradford watermelon.
Chef Forrest Parker is a former city tour guide, and his passion for Charleston’s history shines through in Revival’s menu. She-crab soup, a classic Charleston dish, is one of Revival’s specialties. The recipe is based on the original recipe of William Deas, an African-American chef who famously served the soup to President William Howard Taft.
Creative cocktails like the Butterfly Effect - comprised of bourbon, smoked pineapple, mint, red verjus, and bee’s pollen - round out Revival’s menu and provide a refreshing complement to any meal.
