When you’re looking for somewhere that perhaps you haven’t been before, a hidden gem of sorts, one area in our state that is perfect for South Carolina nature lovers is Poe Creek State Forest.

Located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Oconee and Pickens Counties, Poe Creek State Forest is a beautiful spot for individuals, couples, families, and even work groups to enjoy nature.

There are two cabins and a conference center available for overnight stays.
Gather around the fire pit for evening conversation, marshmallow roasting, and warmth during cooler seasons.

There are various daytime recreational opportunities, including hiking.

For a moderate hike, Buzzards Roost North and Cedar Creek Mountain Trail is four miles out and back with stunning views from the top, especially in the winter when unhindered by foliage. Some parts of the trail are strenuous.
Long Shoals Wayside Park is a much easier, 0.8-mile out-and-back trail that takes you along Little Estatoe Creek and the shoals, where you can enjoy several types of recreational activities, including fishing.
