When it comes to places in the middle of nowhere in South Carolina, the Town of Bluffton certainly checks many of the boxes for criteria. Its' quiet and remote location stretching east from SC-170 and south of US-278, along with a geographical perch near the edge of the continent, make it one of the furthest points from the opposite end of the state.

Settled in 1728 and founded in 1852, Bluffton enjoyed well over a century of very slow growth. But that all changed in the '90s. The Bluffton from 20 years ago had a mere 1,275 residents.

Since that time, it has grown exponentially in both land mass as well as population. Today, more than 25,000 people live in this coastal locale.

WIth any trip to Bluffton, visitors are instantly charmed by the Old Town historic villlage, which is situated on the May River. Gorgeous, spansive, and always glistening in the sun, the May River moves at what seems a snail's pace on the edge of the historic district.
