Highlights 16 traditional practices in South Carolina that are slowly fading and encourages their revival.
South Carolina is deep rooted in tradition. It's just the way it is here although more and more the traditions are slowly dying and being lost to the sands of time. So, I put together 16 traditions that some of you may know, and some of you may not. Maybe we can bring a few of them back.
1. Sunday family meals
The ENTIRE family.
2. Giving a silver rattle or spoon as a gift to a newborn baby
A lot of times it was handed down through the family.
3. Carolina/Clemson game on Thanksgiving
This is especially fun if you are a house divided.
4. New Year's Day meal
With collards, fried hog jowl, hoppin' john, and cornbread.
5. Rubbing a chicken bone on warts
And then burying it during a full moon. By the next full moon the warts will be gone.
