We've been enjoying a pretty pleasant summer here in Rhode Island. But as much as we love our beach days, sometimes the little ones in our lives might prefer something a bit more mellow. Spend the next hot summer day at World War II Memorial Park in Woonsocket, where you'll find a playground with a great splash pad.
World War II Memorial Park is located on Social Street in Woonsocket.
The park occupies land known as the Social Flatlands, where textile mills once operated along the banks of the Mill River.
While the textile mills are long gone, the park has plenty to offer.
There's a 4-mile loop trail and plenty of shorter nature hikes to enjoy. And of course, the veterans' monument is a big attraction.
The park also features baseball fields, basketball courts, a playground, picnic tables, and a performance stage...
... but in the summertime, nothing tops the splash pad.
The splash pad has been around for several years, and the locals love it.
On any given summer day, you'll hear dozens of kids here laughing and shrieking in delight.
The splash pad tends to be open from early June to early September, depending on the weather.
When it's open, its hours are usually 10 a.m. - 7 p.m.
Bring your beach towels and sunscreen, because it isn't easy to convince children to leave this place.
But really, can you blame them?
World War II Memorial Park hosts AutumnFest each year, which is a huge community extravaganza featuring food, exhibits, and entertainment, topped off by a giant parade. The event is always extremely popular.
But until fall's arrival, nothing is more popular than this splash park.
Have you seen the splash pad at World War II Memorial Park?
