Rhode Island is the perfect state for hikers in our opinion. We may be small, but we boast over 100 unique trails that cover terrain of all types and contain breathtaking views. Since Rhode Island is the Ocean State, you can also be guaranteed that your hiking experience will be relatively flat. There may be some rock scrambling or mud to reckon with, but many trails are perfect for hikers of all ages and levels of ability. One woodsy spot that is ideal for a day of exploring is Weetamoo Woods.
Weetamoo woods is located in beautiful Tiverton, and the land offers a massive 650 acres to explore.
There are seven miles worth of trails to be discovered in the woods and another two miles in the Pardon Grey reserve next to the woods. The nine total miles are divided up over eight trails.
You can choose to hike one of colored trails (red, orange, yellow, green, and blue are the options,) or to take the meadow trail, the cemetery trail, or the South trail.
You can find a full version of the trail map here.
The meadow trail is aptly named as it takes you through a meadow. This trail is close to a farm, so you may be able to spot some animals if you walk here.
The cemetery trail will take you to a sweet little historical cemetery worth taking a look at.
The five colored trails all connect in one way or another and there are a few different loop hikes available so you can end your hike where you started without having to do any backtracking.
There are lovely streams and other bodies of water to be seen along the trails,
as well as some trees that are over 100 years old!
And if you're a fan of things old and abandoned, maybe you'll even be lucky enough to spot this bus!
Which of the eight Weetamoo Woods trails are you most excited to discover? Or will you be choosing more than one to explore? With do much to be seen along these trails we think they are a great way to spend a day outside.
