Chasing waterfalls just might be the perfect way to spend a day, whether it's a snowy winter morning or a balmy summer afternoon. This waterfall-themed day trip in Rhode Island showcases the natural beauty of several local waterfalls before you head to a darling restaurant that dishes up incredible food. If you've got a free day, pile the whole family into the car, and hit the road!
Slip on a pair of comfy walking shoes or bring your bike along for a journey along the nearly seven-mile Blackstone River Bikeway Trail that will lead you past two beautiful cascades.
Even if seven miles seems a bit daunting, the trail is considered easy and usually only takes around two hours to complete. You might want to take your time, so you can soak up all of the natural beauty along the way.
The path, which is conducive to both wheelchairs and strollers, can get really busy. Early morning, however, can be quite quiet.
Travel along the winding path, where you might catch sight of local wildlife, including deer, geese, and turtles. You'll also happen upon two waterfalls, including Albion Falls and Manville Dam.
Don't forget your camera because stunning views await, no matter what time of the year you make the trip. After you've completed the hike, you're heading to nearby Harrisville.
Hop in the car for the nearly 30-minute drive to Harrisville Falls. You can see the waterfall right from the road; it's perhaps the most easily-accessible waterfall in Rhode Island.
Just across the road from Harrisville Falls is Waterfall Cafe & Martini Bar, where you'll be treated to one of the best meals in Rhode Island.
Pull up a chair in the charming restaurant that serves a tantalizing selection of Italian food. from pizza to house-made mac and cheese.
The menu's also brimming with steak, chicken, and seafood classics. You can never go wrong with a grilled-how-you-like-it sirloin or filet mignon.
Cap off your weekend with a brisk hike to chase waterfalls followed by Sunday morning breakfast at the restaurant. Breakfast is served from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. weekly.
