Once upon a time, in 2014, an ice cream cart started popping up at Providence events and farmers markets, peddling delicious homemade ice cream sandwiches and unique, irresistible ice cream tacos. Needless to say, it was an instant hit, earning an impressive amount of local press and loyalty. As of last year, Tricycle Ice Cream has a storefront... and we can't think of a better way to welcome the return of ice cream season.
Tricycle Ice Cream is located at 70 Battey Street in Providence, where it has been since its official opening in January of 2019.
The ice cream cart's longtime fans were thrilled to have a permanent place to go to get their fix.
The interior is small, but there's some seating for those who want to dine in.
The ice cream cart is still around, however -- and you can even book it for private events.
Tricycle Ice Cream is co-owned by David Cass and Gio Salvado.
Cass is a local teacher with an entrepreneurial spirit, while Salvado had always dreamed of owning an ice cream shop. Together, they create some amazing concoctions.
The handmade ice cream sandwiches, which put this place on the map, are basically guaranteed to be the best you'll ever have...
... but it's the ice cream tacos that make this place a true original.
The flavors and toppings vary depending on seasonal favorites and what's available, but there's always a little something for everyone on the menu.
Cass and Salvado make ice cream in small batches using organic milk and cream.
They also use fresh ingredients from local farmers whenever possible, and you can really taste the quality when you bite in to these delicious treats.
Tricycle Ice Cream is currently open Friday - Sunday, although their dates and hours will expand in the summer.
Friday hours are 3 p.m. - 9 p.m., Saturday hours are 11 a.m. - 9 p.m., and they're open from 11 a.m. - 8 p.m. on Sunday.
We're lucky to have a place like Tricycle Ice Cream here in Rhode Island. And since we're always trying to feature the fun, unique, and beautiful places of the Ocean State, we'd love to hear about your favorites.
