Whether you prefer sandy beaches, rugged forests, or tranquil wildlife refuges, you'll find it all here. This is far from a complete list of every natural wonder in the state -- but if you visit these 10 spots, you'll be off to a fantastic start. Consider this our nature lover's bucket list.
1. Fort Wildlife Refuge
This nature preserve in North Smithfield offers a series of loops that lead to three peaceful ponds. In the winter, this is a great spot for snowshoeing and cross country skiing.
2. Simmons Mill Pond Management Area
Doesn't this just look peaceful? Located in Little Compton, the Simmons Mill Pond Management Area has 500 acres of ponds and hiking trails.
3. Sachuest Point National Wildlife Refuge
You'll find this little piece of paradise in Middletown. Visitors can go fishing, check out the Visitor Center, or just look for the abundant wildlife.
4. Mohegan Bluffs
Mohegan Bluffs is one of Block Island's most magical areas. These large clay cliffs next to the crashing waves will always be enchanting.
5. Beavertail State Park
Located in Jamestown, Beavertail State Park consists of 150 acres of rocky cliffs, ocean views, and of course, that famous lighthouse. No wonder we love it so much.
6. Lincoln Woods State Park
Lincoln Woods State Park spans about 627 acres around Olney Pond four miles northwest of Pawtucket in Lincoln. It's easy to get lost in this park, but in a good way.
7. Purgatory Chasm
How lucky are we to have Purgatory Chasm? This little geographical wonder is surrounded by rugged shoreline and ocean views.
8. Stepstone Falls
Rhode Island does't have an abundance of waterfalls, but the falls we do have are beautiful. Set in a wooded area, This picturesque waterfall is a series of gentle cascades over broad ledges, and spending time here will completely relax you.
9. Easton's Beach
You'll find Easton's Beach in Newport. And while it has become pretty popular over the years, especially with its summer events and iconic carousel, you can still find plenty of uncrowded spots if you look hard enough.
10. Emilie Ruecker Wildlife Refuge
Located in Tiverton, this stunning refuge is full of salt marshes and little-known species of birds.
