George's of Galilee is a seafood restaurant that has been cooking up delicious clam cakes and other items for 70 years in the Port of Galilee. It was originally George's Lunch back in the 1930s but in 1948, Norman and Edna Dufree bought the four table restaurant, expanded, and began catering to the local coastal community.
In 1969 Norman turned the business over to his son and the restaurant doubled in size, decks were added, and the menu expanded. George's is now the largest waterfront restaurant in Rhode Island.
Between its various dining rooms and outdoor tables, this landmark seafood restaurant seats almost 500 people.
Clam cakes have been a staple on the menu since the restaurant first opened and they are still one of the most popular items offered. Combine them with a bowl of clam chowder and you have a meal fit for a king.
George's of Galilee specializes in seafood, so you will find a large variety of scrumptious offerings on the menu like the flavorful mussels and clams portofino.
Since the restaurant is right on the water, seafood is sourced locally. We love the perfectly cooked scallops, but other diners show up just for the award winning baked stuffed quahogs.
The fish and chips have also stood the test of time at this landmark seafood restaurant. They've remained on the menu for 70 years, so you just know they have to be great.
If you aren't a seafood lover, you can still eat at George's. They have burgers and a fantastic grilled rib eye that will please any meat lover.
There are six different dining rooms on two floors at George's, each one featuring wonderful water views. You can also order at the take-out window and enjoy your food outdoors.
And believe it or not, this restaurant has its own beach and they offer beach blanket service during the summer!
If you haven't yet been to George's of Galilee, you are definitely going to want to experience the fresh boat-to-table seafood at this long-standing spot.
