As spring weather finally makes its way to Rhode Island, we can't help but want to venture outside and explore the great outdoors. Start with a nice, easy hike this spring and head to the Sachuest Point National Wildlife Refuge in Middletown. This picturesque little loop is full of stunning scenery and fresh seaside breezes.
The Sachuest Point National Wildlife Refuge is located on a remote peninsula just outside of Middletown.
It's easy to find, and the hiking trail covers the whole beautiful area.
The trail is about 2.4 miles in length, and the hike is considered an easy one.
There won't be any steep elevation gains or switchbacks here.
This hike is lovely in any season, but there's something magical about hiking it in the spring.
If you spend most of your winters indoors, this trek will remind you of Rhode Island's unparalleled natural beauty.
Not only will you have plenty of water views while you walk, but if you're lucky, you'll see some wildlife.
Plenty of birds and deer, as well as a monitored coyote pack, call this place home.
The trail is nice and well-maintained, and it includes plenty of viewpoints for stopping and taking in the scenery.
And you'll definitely want to do just that.
Sachuest Point National Wildlife Refuge is one of five national wildlife refuges in the state of Rhode Island.
During World War II, the 242 acre space was used as a rifle range and communications center.
But these days, all you'll find here is natural beauty and happy wildlife.
And that's exactly how we like it.
Have you hiked the Sachuest Point National Wildlife Refuge Trail lately, or ever? This is the perfect time to go outside and spend some quiet time in nature.
