There’s An Emerald Waterfall Hiding Near Pittsburgh That’s Too Beautiful For Words
Waterfalls just add the perfect touch to any hike. When that hike takes you through gorgeous emerald scenery, such as lush trees and meandering creeks, to that waterfall, that just makes it even more special. Get ready for a short but sweet hike that will bring you to one of the prettiest waterfalls near Pittsburgh.
McConnells Mill State Park in Portersville, about an hour's drive from downtown Pittsburgh, boasts breathtaking scenery all year round - whether it's sprinkled in snow or flanked by colorful foliage.
However, during the spring and the summer, shades of emerald paint the landscape, creating a fairy tale vibe. That's especially true if you follow Hells Hollow Trail.
The short but sweet trail, clocking in at just a half of a mile, is considered easy, although you'll notice the terrain becomes a bit slippery when you near Hells Hollow Falls.
Even though the trail is considered easy, take several precautions to ensure your safety. Wear, for example, sturdy hiking boots and always stay on the trail.
After finishing your hike, consider exploring the rest of the park. Whitewater boating, rock climbing, and picnicking are also popular activities at McConnells Mill State Park.
