The Beautiful Lake Near Pittsburgh That’s Perfect For A Day On The Water
Start applying the sunscreen. Pretty soon, the temperatures will climb, providing the perfect weather for playing on and in the water. We, Pittsburghers, are pretty fortunate to be within driving distance of a plethora of shimmering lakes that host a variety of activities. For a day of adventure or sheer relaxation, head to Lake Arthur, a beautiful lake near Pittsburgh that’s perfect for a day on the water.
Less than 45 minutes from downtown Pittsburgh, Moraine State Park sprawls across more than 16,000 acres. Visitors engage in an assortment of activities, including hiking, biking, and horseback riding.
However, the masterpiece of the lush state park just might be the 3,225-acre Lake Arthur, a playground for boaters, swimmers, and others who love the water.
Sunbathe on the sandy beaches along Lake Arthur. Lakeview Beach and Pleasant Valley Beach both feature changing facilities, showers, and even a snack bar.
Spend your day at the beach, which is open from 8 a.m. to sunset everyday from Memorial Day to Labor Day annually.
Or, do you prefer to be
on the water instead of in it? You've got plenty of choices. Bring a partner and go canoeing or kayaking.
Sailboating, windsurfing, and stand-up paddle boarding (SUP) are also popular activities on Lake Arthur.
Don't have your own boat, kayak, or paddle board? No worries. Head to the boat rental concession stand where you can rent each as well as motorboats, rowboats, canoes, and pontoon boats.
Or, have someone else do the navigation. Hop aboard the Nautical Nature, a pontoon boat that takes passengers on a scenic cruise of Lake Arthur.
Add the 19th Annual Lake Arthur Regatta to your calendar, too. Set for August 4 and 5, 2018, the regatta boasts a full schedule of events, including boat rides, yoga on the lake, competitions, and live entertainment.
Cap off your day by drinking in a glorious sunset behind Lake Arthur. Moraine State Park is open from sunrise to sunset daily, although camping is permitted.
