Get Away From It All At This Crystal Clear Lake Near Pittsburgh

What do you do when you need to get away from it all? Curl up with a good book and let your imagination take you worlds away? Snuggle under the blankets for a long, leisurely rest? Or, do you prefer to get outside and do something fun? Well, a day at this clear lake near Pittsburgh certainly promises a picture-perfect opportunity to get away from it all, to relax, and to recharge.

Pack the car with everything you need - swimsuit, beach towel, and sunscreen - for a fun and a safe day at the beach at Raccoon Creek State Park, just a half an hour from downtown Pittsburgh.

There, you'll discover a 500-foot, picturesque sand beach leading into the 100-acre Raccoon Lake.

But, if you'd prefer a little more privacy, stake out a spot on the grass just behind the soft sand, where you can put your beach towel or beach chair and beach umbrella.

Cool off in the cool, clear lake water. And, when you get hungry, make a beeline for the snack bar that sells an assortment of goodies, including cold drinks and snacks.

Then, if you need a break from the beach, set off on a leisurely stroll on one of the hiking trails.

Discover cool, refreshing springs along Mineral Springs Trail, a 1.2-mile trail that's rated easy.

Wade in the cool water of Raccoon Lake, daily from 8 a.m. to sunset from the end of May until the middle of September each year.
