What's one of the very best parts of summer? Why, all the fresh fruits and veggies just picked from the garden, of course. Nothing quite compares to salad made with fresh romaine lettuce. Or, scooping into a juicy watermelon, right? Pittsburgh's ripe with outdoor farmers markets all summer long. But, the rest of the year? Well, there's one incredible indoors farmers market in Pittsburgh that's open every Saturday all year long.
Are you one of the Pittsburghers who has made the Farmers Market Cooperative of East Liberty a regular Saturday stop?
The indoor farmers market first opened on July 5, 1941. Since then, it has become a fixture in the Pittsburgh community, opening every Saturday morning.
Good news, too. Some cooperatives require shoppers to become members. Not the Farmers Market Coop of East Liberty.
The charming indoor farmers market is a cooperative because it is collectively owned by a group of farmers.
The only year-round, indoor farmers market in the Burgh, the Farmers Market Coop hosts a variety of vendors. Kistaco Farm, for example, sells a range of fresh produce, from lettuce to blueberries.
Stock up on fresh meat, cheese, and eggs from other vendors, including Greenawalt Farm and Wheel and Wedge Cheese.
Of course, you'll also find plenty of other goodies. Indulge in Better-Maid Donuts. Or, pick up Mrs. Jones Multi-Purpose Sauce for your pasta or pizza.
Discover unique gifts from local vendors. Blue Rose Creations and Handmade Items from Uganda sell an assortment of blankets, pillows, and jewelry.
Farmers Market Cooperative of Pittsburgh is open every Saturday from 5 a.m. to 12 p.m.
