Sometimes we like heading out on a hike where we know what to expect, a trail we've traversed many times and can find whatever we're looking for, whether adventure or relaxation. Then there are times when we're in the mood to be surprised on our hike. That's exactly what awaits along Meadow Run Trail in Pennsylvania, which boasts such stunning natural scenery as waterfalls and a natural water slide.
Meadow Run Trail, which runs through Ohiopyle State Park, is one of those trails where you never know what you're going to find next.
However, before you set off on the 2.9-mile trail, make sure you've got a pair of sturdy shoes on and wear your swimsuit, or clothes you don't mind getting wet.
While the popular trail ends at a spectacular waterfall, you'll also see other smaller waterfalls along the route that can get really busy, especially during the summer.
Bring your camera, too, as you'll definitely want to capture snapshots of the flowing cascades and the wildflowers that dot the trail.
If you need a break, find one of the flat, smooth rocks, which make a good resting spot.
Meadow Run Trail is ideal for hikers of all ages and skill levels, although you may come across stairs and some rough terrain.
On hot summer days, slip into the refreshing water of the natural water slide to cool off. Just be aware that you could get a few bumps and bruises from the rocks as you slide.
Consider bringing a picnic along, too, as you'll find plenty of quiet spots to eat along the trail and in the park itself.
The breathtaking trail ends at Cucumber Falls, which drops 30 feet into a small pool of water. You can see the waterfall from above then climb down a set of stairs and even walk behind the waterfall.
