Hawk Mountain Sanctuary, a non-profit, has dedicated itself to raptor conservation since 1934. The sprawling Pennsylvania wildlife sanctuary offers plenty for visitors to see and to do all year around.

Start your journey at the Visitor's Center, which features educational exhibits, life-sized carvings of various raptors, and a bookstore.

The raptor conservation organization hosts a variety of events and educational programs throughout the year.

One of the highlights of a trip to Hawk Mountain Sanctuary for many is, of course, getting outdoors and seeing wildlife, including birds of prey, up close.

Hawk Mountain Sanctuary features seven trails, which offer everything from a short stroll to a day-long adventure.

The Lookout Trail, arguably the most popular trail at the sanctuary, spans a mile. Rated easy, the trail typically takes an hour and a half to two hours to walk.

Arrive at the North Lookout, where you can snap photos and gaze in the sky for birds or prey. If you want to know where to see hawks in Pennsylvania, this is one of the best spots.

Raptors that reside within the sanctuary include the bald eagle, black vultures, golden eagles, and osprey. Of course, you'll also see other wildlife during your hike, too.

Hawk Mountain Sanctuary's Visitor's Center is open all year long, except major holidays. The sanctuary's Visitor's Center and trails are open daily between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. The center is closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's days, and it's closed at 1 p.m. the day before each of those major holidays.

During bad weather, call to ensure the visitor's center is open.

An admission fee is required in order to hike any of the trails on the property. Fees are $10 for adults, $7 for 65 and older, and $5 for kids 6-12. Admission for children ages 5 and under is free.
