The 6 Best Backroads Around Portland For A Scenic Drive
Portland is a paradise for lovers of sprawling vistas and winding roads. Whether you want to stay in town or venture a little further, these are some of the best roads to take on your adventure in or around town.
1. Historic Columbia River Highway
Head to the gorge and beyond on this historical highway just made for a scenic drive. Pass by waterfalls and take it slow on this 100-year-old two-lane road just built for cruising.
2. SW Terwilliger Boulevard
Take this winding road up to OHSU and pull off to take in the amazing view. There are plenty of places to enjoy a quiet moment and take in a lovely view of Mt Hood, all just a few minutes from downtown.
3. Oregon Route 35
Take this lovely road from Hood River to Government Camp for a scenic trip with some amazing views of the mountain.
4. Oregon Route 224
The road to Estacada is filled with wonderful views and rolling hills. Stop at Milo McIver State Park to enjoy the afternoon while you are there.

Travel through wine country on this lovely country road. Pick up the highway from Oregon Route 8 near Forest Grove or 99W near Newberg for a scenic journey through vineyards and farmland.

You are going to want to avoid the road in the winter when ice is around, but otherwise, this winding road is a lovely look at the West Hills. While you are there, consider hopping out of the car and exploring Forest Park. The Germantown Road Trailhead is a great starting place for a hiking adventure.
