Oregon Has Its Own Niagara Falls, And You’ll See It On This Short, Pretty Hike
Have you ever visited Niagara Falls? No, we’re not referring to the huge falls on the U.S./Canadian border – there’s a Niagara Falls right here in the Beaver State! While it’s much smaller than the falls back east, it’s still absolutely beautiful, and well worth the short hike to see another of Oregon’s top waterfall gems. And, as a bonus, you’ll also see a second waterfall! Let’s head to the Siuslaw National Forest to take a look:
You'll start in the little town of Beaver, then take Blaine Road heading east for six miles. Turn off on Upper Nestucca River Road and drive another 5.8 miles, then turn onto Forest Service Road 8533. After a 4.3-mile drive through the thick forest, you'll take the junction to Forest Road 8533-131, turn right, and head to the parking lot .7 miles down the road.
According to the Forest Service, you're looking at Niagara Falls. However, our friends at OregonHikers.org point out that the Northwest Waterfall Survey marks this is Pheasant Falls.
At the end of the day, does it matter which is Niagara Falls and which is Pheasant Falls? The pretty hiking trail that takes you to both is well worth your time.
