If you're a lover of literary pursuits and also enjoy a glass of fine whiskey or bourbon, have we got a treat for you! There's a beautiful library-themed whiskey bar in Oregon that blends the two perfectly. Take a look at Multnomah Whisk{e}y Library.
The Multnomah Whisk{e}y Library is unlike any library you've ever seen. It doesn't have books. Instead, it has hundreds, perhaps thousands of different whiskeys from all over the world.
You'll find this one-of-a-kind library at 1124 SW Alder St., Portland, OR 97205. Enter from the street, then go up the stairs to find the library.
This place isn't styled after a typical public library. It's more like a library you'd find at an Ivy League college or perhaps the estate of a multi-millionaire in the 1930s.
It's certainly got all the characteristics of a library. From the sliding ladders that help the staff reach the bottle you're looking for...
...to the rich, wood-paneled walls and old photographs in the tasting room...
...to the comfy leather club chairs and card catalog tables, bibliophiles will love this place every bit as much as whiskey connoisseurs.
You may have noticed the curly brackets in the middle of this place's name. That's because Scotch whisky is spelled with the 'e,' while American whiskey always includes it. Spelling aside, your head is sure to spin when you see the large collection of bottles here.
Not sure where to start? Ask a member of the staff for help. Just like knowledgeable librarians, these folks will walk you through a quick intro to the Scotch and American whiskeys, as well as others from all over the world.
Watch for special events here, too. Distillers often stop by to offer their own special knowledge and tastings.
The best way to find a new favorite? A flight, of course.
Unlike most public libraries, this one offers food. Head downstairs to The Green Room, where you'll find more library-themed atmosphere and plenty of tasty snacks and entrees.
Share a cheese board with friends...
...or get an entree for dinner. You'll find an array of entrees, from the classic hamburger to mac and cheese to 40-day dry-aged ribeye.
And of course, you can pair your small plates or dinner with your favorite drink, too.
Are you ready to peruse this library? Visit Monday through Saturday from noon to midnight (open til 1 a.m. on Friday and Saturday).
