Residents Of This Small Oregon Town Will Never Forget The Year It Became Famous
Oregon is home to
tons of cool little towns. From spots with great seafood, to hippie towns, to quaint little hamlets, we love everything about our smaller cities and towns.
Apparently Hollywood once thought that St. Helens, Oregon was pretty picturesque – it was briefly famous as the charming setting for a Halloween movie.
During the summer of 1998, the quiet little town of St. Helens, Oregon became a bustling, busy place, filled with Hollywood set designers, makeup artists, and actors.
The Disney film,
Halloweentown was filmed here, and the production company transformed the already-charming town into a quaint Halloween-themed hamlet.
St. Helens' buildings got a few extra decorations...
...and some of the residents of St. Helens got a Halloween makeover when they appeared as extras in the film!
Because the movie was actually filmed during the summer, the film crew had to cover up the green grass and paint many of the leaves on the trees in autumn colors.
With warm summer temperatures, the cast and extras were plenty toasty in their Halloween apparel, but no one was complaining.
The cast members took breaks right inside the City Hall Council Chamber.
Do you remember when St. Helens turned into Halloweentown?
