The warm weather is still staying around in southern Oklahoma, which means you have a few weeks left to canoe or kayak on the Lower Mountain Fork River and enjoy the stunning fall foliage without freezing. Five miles of the river is located within Beavers Bend State Park, known for some of the best fall foliage viewing in the state, and one of the best ways to get a front-row seat is to take a ride down the river.
Lower Mountain Fork River is located in southeastern Oklahoma and is known for some of the best trout fishing in the state. But that's not all it's known for.
Five miles of the river runs through Beavers Bend State Park, an area known for some of the most beautiful fall foliage in the state.
It's also one of the best places to take a canoe or kayak ride. You can bring your own for free or there are outfitters that rent them along the river.
This time of year we recommend you take a canoe ride since you'll get less wet than in a kayak. It's also a great activity to bring Fido along to enjoy the great outdoors.
Some outfitters are still renting canoes and kayaks but others have already stopped for the season. The weather is looking pretty warm through the end of October so you won't be too cold if you get wet.
The vibrant hues of Fall will surround you everywhere you go on your ride down the Lower Mountain Fork River. Peak fall foliage viewing in the park is normally the last week of October into the first week of November.
Along your route, there will be areas where you can pull over and get out of your canoe. Pack a lunch and enjoy a picnic surrounded by some of the best scenery in the state. Just be sure and bring a sweatshirt and towels so you stay comfy on your canoe trip.
