You’ll Never Want To Leave The Little Switzerland Of Ohio
Here in Ohio, you can get a small taste of Switzerland — complete with authentic Swiss cheese, of course.
If you’ve yet to visit “The Little Switzerland of Ohio,” then you’re missing out on an important piece of small-town Ohio. The village of Sugarcreek is a popular stop when visiting Ohio Amish Country and it features some truly charming architecture, murals and other unique attractions. Take a look:
Tucked away in the heart of Ohio Amish Country, this Tuscarawas County village is home to approximately 2,220 people.
In addition to being "The Little Switzerland of Ohio," Sugarcreek is one of the most popular Ohio Amish Country destinations.
You'll find unique architecture and a charming atmosphere in this unique town. You'll want to take your time strolling through the shops.
The village prides itself on its German and Swiss heritage, and you can't leave without purchasing some homemade Swiss cheese while you're in town.
Every September, the annual Ohio Swiss Festival takes place in Sugarcreek. People come from all over the state to experience this classic Ohio festival. It definitely belongs on your bucket list.
Next year's festival will take place on September 28-29.
Sugarcreek is also famously known for being the home of the World's Largest Cuckoo Clock.
It's a bizarre (yet charming) roadside attraction everyone in Ohio needs to see at least once.
With a rich railroad history, Sugarcreek was actually called "East Shanesville" once upon a time. Towns emerged around the train depot, changing the name to "Sugar Creek."
With time, the two towns merged together and "Sugarcreek" was officially established in the late 60s.
Today, the town is an unbelievably charming stop to make while you're exploring the countryside.
Many of the local shops and buildings make you feel as if you've taken a trip to Disney's Epcot or stepped foot into a new Disney film.
While you're in town, be sure to stop by the Alpine Hills Historical Museum on Main Street. It features displays that depict the early years of the community and surrounding area.
