Eden Park is, without a doubt, one of the most beautiful places in Ohio. Like many Ohioans, the park has immense significance to me: the Cincinnati Art Museum is the site of one of my first dates with my now-husband, and the park's acclaimed Spencer Overlook is where we, five years after the aforementioned date, had our wedding photos taken. This scenic viewpoint in Ohio is celebrated for its immense beauty, with the Ohio River seemingly stretching into the horizon ad infinitum. In fact, I'd go as far as to say that this Ohio overlook is almost like a miniature Columbia River Gorge... it truly is that beautiful.
This, as you know, is the Columbia River Gorge. The Crown Jewel of the Pacific, it is the largest natural scenic area in the country and definitely one of the most beautiful places in the U.S.
This, admittedly, is *not* the Columbia River Gorge -- by my, isn't it lovely?
What this place is, friends, is Spencer Overlook, a place that affords some of the most magical views of the mighty Ohio River in Cincinnati, Ohio.
The overlook's namesake, Donald A Spencer, was the founding member of the Friends of Cincinnati Parks. A proud public schoolteacher and passionate parks proponent, Donald Spencer worked tirelessly through the decades to secure funding to sustain and beautify Cincinnati's beloved parks.
Mr. Spencer is well known as a advocate of free and open access to one of Ohio's true treasures -- the remarkable Krohn Conservatory, the crown jewel of Eden Park.
Accessible via foot, bike path, or car, there is a large parking lot with ample places to park for those looking to take in the scenery at Spencer Overlook. (This area also has a small pond, footbridge, playground, and picnic tables, making it a delightful place to spend an afternoon!)
From the overlook, visitors have the opportunity to gaze west or east. I'm partial to the eastern vistas, which show the beautiful bend in the Ohio River as well as some of Cincinnati's most esteemed neighborhoods and public parks.
Beautiful any time of day, there's something absolutely ravishing about this viewpoint during the Golden Hour, and also as the sun melts below the horizon. This place -- this miniature Columbia River Gorge in Ohio -- is both inspired and inspiring, and wholly, wonderfully lovely.
Have you been to this scenic viewpoint in Ohio before? While it's obviously *not* as immense as *the* Columbia River Gorge of the Pacific Northwest, I really do think it's equally grand and gorgeous. For more information on Eden Park, please visit the City of Cincinnati website.
