I’m going to start this article with a sincere apology for anyone who eschews pickles… and puns. Because I have an unabashed love for both, and so to find an Ohio pickle festival just around the corner, well, let’s just say my pickle-and-pun loving heart is dillighted. Happening August 13 in Akron, Ohio, the eponymous Akron Pickle Fest is an epic end-of-summer festival that’s, well, quite a big dill.
There are people who like pickles and people who don't like pickles. I happen to be in the camp that relishes these wonderfully sweet and sour cucumbers that have been pickled to crispy, crunch perfection.
Due to an abundant cucumber crop at my parents' CSA, I've had the good fortune of being flush with fresh fare for pickling, and have taken to preparing my own sweet and sour pickle chips at home.
I'm not alone in my unabashed passion for pickles. There are farmers markets and pickling artisans all over Ohio, as well as restaurants elevating this humble veg to center stage, with everything from fried pickle spears to quick pickled slaws for craft burgers and tacos.
There's also, wouldn't you know, an Ohio festival that celebrates all things pickles, and it's right around the corner! Akron Pickle Fest happens Sunday, Aug. 13 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is *the* festival for pickle lovers in the Buckeye State -- whether you're #TeamDill, #TeamGherkin, or #Team Cornichon, you'll be in good company at this only-in-Ohio fest.
So what can you expect at Akron Pickle Fest? Lots of dill-ightful fun, that's what! Dozens of artists and crafters, vendors galore, food trucks featuring pickles of every size, shape, variety, and cuisine... this truly is pickle paradise, friends.
There will also be a peck of pickle games, pickle contests, pickle tournaments, pickle parades, and so much more! If you can dream it, and it has a pickle in it, you'll probably find it at Akron Pickle Fest.
Last year's inaugural Akron Pickle Fest brought an estimated 8,000-10,000 pickle fans to Tire City -- and this year, event coordinators are hoping for more! Come join the legions of pickle lovers who unite on one day for an Ohio festival that's truly too dill-ightful for words.
