Having an adventurous spirit is a gift. You find beauty and value in the most mundane places, and you thrive knowing that every day will bring something new. And you know, of course, that nature hides some of the most amazing surprises... especially right here in Northeast Ohio. Our landscape is perfect for adventure. Scenic overlooks, hemlock forests, rivers, and ledges adorn the area like jewels, beckoning to adventure seekers. Everyone knows, however, that the real diamonds in this emerald necklace are local waterfalls.
Leroy Township, at nearly 26 square miles, is a natural paradise.
Locals in this community are treated daily to natural beauty, especially in the Lake Metroparks.
And this quaint community hides Paine Falls Park and its iconic landscape.
This area first came to public attention in 1818 when Colonel Hendrick Pain built a cabin on the valley's terrace. The area became known as Paine's Hollow.
Paine Falls Park is coveted by locals for its 377 acres of surprises.
The Paine family established industry in this valley. As the need for water power declined, it was gradually abandoned. Nature reclaimed the area, fortunately, and it's now a haven for critters big and small.
This park was acquired by the Lake Metroparks in 1974, and locals have adored its enchanting waterfall ever since.
This tiered 25-foot tall waterfall is a visual enchantment all year round. It is located in a rural landscape, a true escape from the hustle and bustle of city life.
During your visit, remember to pack a picnic and a pair of binoculars, because you'll doubtlessly want to sit for a while.
The picnic areas in this park are perfectly placed. Whether you crave sun or shade, there's a table in the perfect spot for you to unwind and reconvene with nature.
The waterfall overlook, you'll be pleased to learn, is close enough to the parking lot for a quick and easy trek.
The area is simple enough to find, too. Plug 5570 Paine Rd. into your GPS and prepare for a scenic drive through Lake County.
There are few waterfalls in the area as wide as this one, and you'll be surprised by its veil-like effect.
This landscape almost looks like a set from a Hollywood fairy tale film. It's too perfect to believe, and it is mind-blowing to consider how close it is to home.
Adventure awaits at Paine Falls Park.
