The Largest Drumsticks In The World Are Hiding In This Alleyway Near Cleveland
Many Northeast Ohioans do not realize the uniqueness of the area that we call home. “There’s nothing to do here,” laments the uninspired local, unaware of the goldmine of attractions that exist in the area. Whether you’re looking for a beach, museum, or quirky diner, there’s something here that will keep you entertained. There is also an array of quirky roadside attractions, including one alleyway that will delight fans of modern music:
Welcome to David Grohl Alley, a hidden destination that's arguably one of the weirdest attractions near Cleveland.
Hidden away in Warren is one artistic alleyway that was designed to inspire young people with the success story of one very famous rock star. Local art meets roadside attraction in this unsuspecting alleyway, making it a destination that's well worth a visit.
This alley features a statue hailed as the largest drumsticks in the world alongside a variety of Dave Grohl-themed art.
These drumsticks were hand-carved by local artist Joel Eggert. Amazingly, each is 23 feet long and weigh around 902 pounds.
If you're wondering why this alley-long shrine to Dave Grohl is located in Warren, it's because this community is actually the famous musician's hometown.
Dave Grohl was born in Warren on January 14, 1969. Even if you don’t know much about him, you’ve definitely heard his music; Grohl was the drummer for the iconic rock band Nirvana from 1990 to 1994. Following the death of singer Kurt Cobain, Grohl went on to found and front the band Foo Fighters.
Grohl was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2014 - and for good reason.
He has a prolific body of work that includes 16 studio albums and six live albums, as well as dozens of compilation albums, collaboration albums, EPs, and soundtracks. Four of Grohl’s Foo Fighters albums have won Grammy Awards for Best Rock Album.
Much to the surprise of locals, Grohl showed up for the alley’s dedication in 2009.
He performed with several local bands in celebration and those who attended the event say the legendary musician was visibly moved by the shrine to his accomplishments.
Over time, new art has been added and old art has been refreshed to ensure that Grohl's legacy is properly celebrated.
Graffiti, pop art, and statues adorn the expanse of this quirky alley. A number of local artists pitched in to bring this unique attraction to life, and their efforts have made it truly one-of-a-kind.
This alleyway's iconic drumsticks were added in 2013, and additional artwork has expanded upon its colorful ambiance.
Even if you've visited David Grohl Alley in the past, it is worth visiting again to see how this rock star-themed alley has evolved.
Photos truly don’t do it justice. David Grohl Alley is best explored in person - there’s just so much to see!
Next time you're in Warren, keep your eyes peeled... you just may be surprised by what you uncover.
