Cincinnati is home to so many great places to eat that it's not surprising if you experience a few cravings while away. If you grew up in Cincinnati and then moved away, it's likely some of the places on this list have stuck with you and creep back into your life in the form of nagging cravings. Even if you've never left, you probably still long for these 12 foods that every Cincinnatian misses when they leave town.
1. Skyline Chili
If you're out of town and this craving hits, things can get ugly. If you're like most Cincinnatians, the first stop when you return to your hometown is your favorite Skyline Chili restaurant for a taste of that famous chili and cheese. Luckily it can be "Skyline Time" anytime with the ability to ship cans of it - but we all know it's just not the same.
2. LaRosa's Pizza
Even if you've moved away, you probably still have 347-1111 programmed into your phone. Their secret recipe sauce and hand-tossed pies are Cincinnati favorites and a staple in most local diets.
3. Graeter's Ice Cream
How spoiled are we by Graeter's!? Ice cream anywhere else just isn't as good. This is another one that can be shipped in a pinch, but there's nothing like a fresh scoop of Black Raspberry Chip from your favorite Graeter's location.
4. A Taco Salad from Taco Casa.
This simple, yet delicious taco salad is famous - and rightfully so! It's definitely crave-worthy, especially if you're out of town and out of reach of its mouthwatering goodness.
5. A Gyro from Sebastian's.
This westside hidden gem is a local favorite and is definitely missed when you're out of town. The gyros are unmatched, and you can't beat the friendly, laid back atmosphere.
6. A UDF Malt.
This sweet, creamy treat tastes great all year long, but especially when you arrive back home after being away. An old-fashioned chocolate malt just hits the spot and makes you feel right at home, which is probably why we miss it when we can't have it.
7. Breakfast at The Echo.
Is there anything better than a classic diner breakfast? There is, and it's when you've been away from Cincinnati for too long and your first stop when you arrive home is at The Echo. Everything is tasty here, but it's the breakfast goodies like goetta, eggs, french toast, and everything else that we can't help but crave.
8. Chips & Guac from Nada.
If you haven't tried the guacamole at Nada, then you don't know what you're missing. If you have tried it, well, you are probably now majorly craving it. Add in their perfectly made chips and a margarita and you have the best reason to come back to Cincinnati.
9. A Taste of Belgium Waffle.
Who are we kidding? We crave these sweet, crunchy, gooey treats even if we had them yesterday! They are waffle perfection and definitely create some intense cravings.
10. A fresh donut from Holtman's Donut Shop.
Whether you prefer a unique concoction or a simple glazed, these donuts are unforgettable. When you're away, you not only miss their sweet taste, but the smell of the tiny little shop in OTR and the anticipation of waiting in line for your heart's desire.
11. A Burger from Zip's.
Cincinnatians have been craving Zip's burgers for decades, along with their onion rings, chili, and other delicious menu items. It's likely on your short list of must-stops when you arrive back in your hometown.
12. Montgomery Inn Ribs
There are newer barbecue joints in the city that are giving this local legend a run for its money, however, it's that famous sauce and crispy Saratoga chips that we still crave. It's best enjoyed at the Boathouse with a view of the river - what a way to welcome yourself back to Cincinnati!
