There’s something about a swinging bridge that makes a trail so much more exciting. Here in Ohio, there are only a handful of trails where you can walk across a suspension bridge. The following are six swinging bridge trails in Ohio that offer the perfect amount of adventure. See how many you’ve hiked before and which ones you need to add to your bucket list:
1. Hemlock Bridge and Whispering Cave Trail (Hocking Hills State Park)

With massive sandstone cliffs, a cave, a towering waterfall and a swinging bridge, the new Hemlock Bridge Trail to Whispering Cave at Hocking Hills State Park is an Ohio adventure you simply have to take. The Hemlock Bridge Trail is a 1.5-mile trail that leads to Whispering Cave, a 300 ft.-wide cavern many past visitors have yet to explore. The trailhead is located at 20160 St. Rt. 664 S, Logan, OH 43138.
2. Bluffton University Nature Preserve (Bluffton)
Bluffton University Nature Preserve is a true hidden gem. It features 160 acres of both woodland and grassland trails. There's a picturesque swinging bridge that spans Riley Creek. The preserve is located on the northwest edge of campus, just off of Augsburger Road. You'll find the swinging bridge near the Bixel Road entrance of the preserve.
3. Hocking Hills Canopy Tours (Rockbridge)

4. Horsehoe Falls (Caesar Creek State Park)

One of the state’s most underrated hikes is hiding in Caesar Creek State Park in Waynesville, Ohio. Part of a larger trail, the trek to Horseshoe Falls is an easy, eventful journey that’s perfect for a short day hike. Along this 1.2-mile portion of the trail, you'll encounter gorgeous views, a swinging bridge and a waterfall. The Flat Fork Ridge Recreation Area, (where you'll find the trailhead), is located on Clarksville Rd., close to the Caesar Creek Visitor’s Center (which is located at 4020 N Clarksville Rd., Waynesville, OH 45068).
5. Go Ape Treetop Adventure (Strongsville)
Go Ape Treetop Adventure at Mill Stream Run Recreation Area in Strongsville, Ohio features a really unique treetop course that gives Ohio explorers and nature lovers a whole new perspective. You'll encounter zip lines, obstacles and jungle crossings. Part of the Cleveland Metroparks, this little-known gem is located just minutes from downtown Cleveland. You'll find it at 16200 Valley Pkwy., Strongsville, OH 44136.
6. Holden Arboretum Canopy Walk and Emergent Tower (Kirtland)
The Judith and Maynard H. Murch Canopy Walk at Holden Arboretum in Kirtland, Ohio features a 500 ft. long elevated walkway suspended 65 ft. above the forest floor. (Don't worry, it actually doesn't swing.) It gives visitors a truly unique perspective of the forest and the animals that live among the trees. And as an added bonus, there’s an observation tower on site that takes you up even further up—so much further that you end up above the trees. You'll find it at 9550 Sperry Rd., Kirtland, OH 44094.
