This may seem like a strange place to stop for a visit, but it's definitely a memorable destination that is bound to leave an impression. Check out this quirky museum for yourself and enjoy all of its eccentricities.
It turns out the city of Chico is home to one of the strangest museums you've probably ever heard of. The National Yo-Yo Museum is a wacky attraction that you need to see for yourself, because it's just as weird as you'd expect!
The museum may look small at first, but it's home to the world's largest public display of yo-yo, yo-yo memorabilia, and contest awards. Whether you're really into yo-yos or you simply enjoy visiting weird destinations, this museum is bound to do the trick.
The National Yo-Yo Museum is open every day of the week and admission is completely free of charge. Guided visits are also available to groups by special arrangement, but drop-ins are more than welcome.
The first thing your eyes will undoubtedly gravitate to upon entering the museum is the Big-Yo. This gigantic yo-yo is a scaled up version of the iconic No-Jive 3-in-1 from Tom Kuhn. It weighs 256 pounds and most importantly, it actually works! In fact, it's in the Guinness Book of World Records as the 'World's Biggest Working Wooden Yo-Yo.'
If that isn't enough to make you want to see this place for yourself, we don't know what is! One thing is for sure, you'll gain a whole new appreciation for this seemingly simplistic toy after visiting the museum.
Believe it or not, the yo-yo is older than Ancient Greece and the toy has appeared all throughout history, although they may not have been called "yo-yos". You won't see any ancient yo-yos in the museum, but you will see ones from all modern eras.
Who knew there was so much to learn about this popular toy? After just one visit to the National Yo-Yo Museum, you may just find yourself digging through boxes from your childhood in search of one. Give this one-of-a-kind museum a chance and you may just be surprised.
